‘There Is No Wrong Body for Gymnastics’

Snapshot

In this month’s episode of PHPod, hosts Bethany Hallenborg and Connor McCombs sit down with Abbie Green, the founder and executive director of EveryBODY Gymnastics, a gymnastics incubator focused on teaching the sport to anyone wanting to learn.

Born out of the COVID-19 pandemic, EveryBODY Gymnastics, a gymnastics incubator based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, has a mission to show that there is no wrong body, shape, size, gender, or age for gymnastics.

Abbie Green, founder and executive director of EveryBODY, is not the first to open the gates to a sport perceived as elite and unattainable by most people. Movements have started around the globe to rebrand gymnastics and let people know that anyone can participate in recreational training. Here in Boston, Green is a part of that movement. Her gym focuses on evidence-based practices for teaching a hyper-movement sport to adults interested in training.

Worldwide, there’s a fraction of adult gymnastics classes compared to youth classes and academies. Green offers classes to adults, and her gym also created a competition team. EveryBODY is focused on continuing to grow, and Green says this is just the beginning. Listen to the full episode to hear how gymnastic culture can change and how EveryBODY is contributing to that change.
